George West, Texas: Stuffed Longhorn On Courthouse Lawn

"Geronimo" was the pride of the George West Ranch, with horns nearly 10 feet across, when he died in 1927. He's been stuffed and on display on the courthouse lawn ever since.

Directions:: Downtown. From US Hwy 281/Nueces St. turn east at the stoplight (gas station on opposite corner) onto Houston St. Drive three blocks. On the right you'll see Geronimo's enclosed shed on the courthouse lawn.

Geronimo died in 1927 and has been on the courthouse lawn ever since -- except for 1976, when he was shipped to Russia as part of an American Bicentennial exhibit.
