Every year, beginning in 1953, the World Ploughing Organisation (British spelling) has held a worldwide plowing contest "to foster and preserve the art and improve the skill of ploughing the land." The competitions have been held in 24 different nations, and a monument of some sort is erected annually to commemorate the event.
The 11th annual event was held in Caledon, and was commemorated with a large stone globe embedded with metal plates engraved with the names of the countries that participated in that year's contest.
