First time there with friends, and we saw a couple get married. Beautiful old bridge and scenic road.
[Rose Howe, 11/05/2020]
Known as the Poinsett Bridge, this was originally part of the state road from Charleston to Asheville. It includes a 14-foot-high gothic arch and was built in 1820, originally without concrete (according to its National Register listing). Although there are no picnic tables, and the ground leading down to the stream is very uneven, this would be a good place for a picnic on a hot day if you don't mind sitting on the ground or nearby rocks.

Built in 1820, the Poinsett Bridge is the oldest surviving bridge in South Carolina. It's off the beaten path but worth the stop.

It's a tiny bridge by modern standards, and safe for pedestrians only. We like that it's right off a modern road and treated as if it's an important landmark, with its own parking lot.
