The swans are back! Stopped by on our way to Montreal and happy to report that there are two new swans in the park.

While Swanton was not named for swan birds, two swans have become the official mascots of the town, complete with an official residence in the town park. The swans also have a thin tie to royalty. In 1961 a PR man from Montreal who had a summer house in Swanton arranged a gift of swans for the town's upcoming bicentennial. Queen Elizabeth II of England herself approved the transfer of a pair of swans to the town. Although the swans of today have no tie to the originals, all subsequent swans have been referred to as "Royal."
