Markham, Texas: Thomas LeTulle on his Mule (Closed)
Tomb in a tiny cemetery is topped by a life-size bronze cattle rancher astride the mule he rode around his property. You'd think this would date to Wild West days, but Thomas LeTulle died in 1988. He commissioned the statue himself.
- Directions:
- From downtown Bay City drive west on Hwy 35 for 5.5 miles. Turn right at the small sign for the Markham Gas Processing Plant onto CR 408/Murphy Rd. Drive north a little over six miles; you'll pass the plant on the left, then the road bends sharply right. The road then ends at a set of electric cattle gates. Park here. You'll see a dirt road heading off to the right. Walk down that road a quarter-mile. Cemetery and statue on the left. Private property; please be respectful.
- Hours:
- 2019: New fence and gate blocks access road.

Thomas LeTulle on his Mule
There's a new gate and brick entrance down the hill from the cemetery. The electric gate was open. Cattle gate/grill is installed on the ground so the gate remained open. Really, you could drive to the cemetery, but we walked.
