Several travelers have reported that Prairie Dog Town appears to be permanently closed, after seasonally reopening this past summer. There had been posted "For Sale" signs (it's been on the market for several years), but no indication it might be revived as a tourist attraction.
Prairie Dog Town had its critics, but was always a reliably oddball stop on I-70 drives. It featured a great gift shop and a unique zoo. And, of course, that "World's Largest Prairie Dog," on the property behind the "no free looks" privacy screen.

Chatted with the owner, Larry Farmer. He says he and his wife have been running the place for 44 years, and this is likely the last one. If they can't sell it as is, they will be forced to sell to a motel or restaurant. They are not open in the winter, so see it in these next few months while you still can!
The Farmers will also watch your well-behaved pet inside, so he/she does not overheat in your car while you enjoy the sights. Not to be missed.

We stopped after being lured in by the billboards as we drove across the country. The owner was so kind and took time to talk about everything with us before we went out to see the animals. The prairie dogs just run around by your feet and their burrows are everywhere! The animals look very well taken care of, nice clean enclosures, lots of fresh food and water. I would love to come back if I am ever in Kansas again!

So claimed for these many years. Note the walls behind prairie dog, which shield the cement colossus from the eyes of non-paying customers.
