Overton, Nevada: Lost City of St. Thomas
Once vibrant Mormon town of 500 and railroad stop was abandoned by 1938 as the dam put even the tallest structure under 60 ft. of water. During drought periods the town is visible from a lookout, and up close via a dirt trail.

- 7 mi. SE of Overton. Just south of the intersection of Valley of Fire Hwy and Northshore Rd, at the Lake Mead entrance plaza, turn onto dirt road (Old St. Thomas Rd) for 3 mi. From lookout, hike is 1.5 miles.

Early Mormon settlement and railroad stop abandoned by last residents in 1938 when the construction of the Hoover Dam caused Lake Mead to rise and completely cover the town. In recent years, the drought has lowered the water level so the ruins of the town are now exposed.
