Zumbrota, Minnesota: Obama's Pie Stop (Gone)

During a stop on his Summer Bus Tour of 2011, President Obama made an unexpected visit to the Coffee Mill cafe, where he bought $60 worth of pies. A pie plate (and the cash) were framed for posterity, but vanished during the summer of 2017.

Obama's Pie Stop

The framed pie plate and cash display no longer exists. I asked the cashier about it, and all she did was show me a page from the local newspaper dated August 17, 2011. The page was stored below the cash register.

Obama Pie - Coffee Mill Cafe

President Obama stopped here and purchased pies. You can sit in the booth where he sat. He mailed the pie plate back to the cafe; it has been framed with a story by the cafe's former owners [Carol and Dean Jackson] and the three $20 bills Obama used to pay for his pies. The cafe is now owned by the former owners' daughter-in-law, Shana. Very reasonable daily specials and friendly folk!
