The Almost Carousel
The historic carousel of Albany is currently a massive collection of parts, including finished and unfinished hand-carved and hand-painted carousel animals, all done by local volunteers. You can go in and see first-hand how these works of art come to life from their first design on paper, to roughed-out form, to the delicately carved, hand-painted final forms.
This project has been going on since 2005, and the volunteers hope to have the carousel all assembled and running in a new building (that they still have to build) in about three years.
