On the approach road to Devils Tower, a large flat field is pockmarked with hundreds of burrow holes for its prairie dog population. We visited in the summer, when vehicles were pulled over along the Prairie Dog Town frontage, tourists pouring out for snaps of the adorable resident rodents popping up from their dwellings. It's a five minute stop.

This particular prairie dog town has been here a long time; Doug has a 1967 family home movie clip to prove it. Evidently few people pay heed to the frequent "Do Not Feed Prairie Dogs" signs.
