The horseshoe is back on permanent display at the Kentucky Derby Museum as of April 2023, in its Secretariat exhibit. Paid admission to the museum is required to see it. Also, it is now officially "America's Largest Horseshoe" since somebody in India broke the record a few years ago.
[Jeff Kennedy, 06/29/2023]The big horseshoe is no longer at the Kentucky Derby Museum. It went to Secretariat's original farm in Virginia.
[C.S.Ray, 03/27/2018]World's Largest Horseshoe
The newly-minted World's Largest Horseshoe was unveiled at the Kentucky Derby Museum on Sep. 20, 2015, to celebrate the museum's 30th anniversary. It measures 206 cm wide by 213.3 cm high [that's roughly seven feet wide and high] and is made of around 610 pounds of solid aluminum. It was modeled after a horseshoe worn by famous racehorse Secretariat in the 1972 Belmont Park Futurity Stakes. It is mounted so that you (and a couple of other folks) can stand in the middle and get your picture taken. A Thoroughbred would have to stand about 95 feet tall at its withers to be able to wear the World's Largest Horseshoe.
