Louisville, Kentucky: World's Largest Horseshoe (In Transition)

This 2015 horseshoe was designed to be just a little bit bigger than a 2013 horseshoe in Martinsville, Illinois, but the KY Derby Museum charges admission for a look at theirs. Currently on tour; should return in Sep. 2018.

Directions:: Kentucky Derby Museum. I-64 exit 9, then drive north on Hwy 1865/Taylor Blvd for one mile. Turn right onto Central Ave. You'll see the Churchill Downs racetrack entrance on the right. The museum is on the left side of the entrance.

World's Largest Horseshoe

The big horseshoe is no longer at the Kentucky Derby Museum. It went to Secretariat's original farm in Virginia.

World's Largest Horseshoe

The newly-minted World's Largest Horseshoe was unveiled at the Kentucky Derby Museum on Sep. 20, 2015, to celebrate the museum's 30th anniversary. It measures 206 cm wide by 213.3 cm high [that's roughly seven feet wide and high] and is made of around 610 pounds of solid aluminum. It was modeled after a horseshoe worn by famous racehorse Secretariat in the 1972 Belmont Park Futurity Stakes. It is mounted so that you (and a couple of other folks) can stand in the middle and get your picture taken. A Thoroughbred would have to stand about 95 feet tall at its withers to be able to wear the World's Largest Horseshoe.
