Avon, New York: 15-Foot-Tall Indian Statue (Gone)
Hatchet-holding, feather-wearing Indian is the mascot of the local Braves school football team. Bare from the waist up; unlikely attire for upstate New York football weather. Put in storage in 2024; plans are to move it somewhere near the school grounds.
- Directions:
- Southeast edge of town. From US Hwy 20 turn south onto Hal-Bar Rd (Look for the small green Avon Central Schools sign). Drive south two blocks; the street curves right and ends at the football field. The Indian stands on the left (south) end of the field.

In 2024 the "Avon Braves" statue was removed from the grounds of Avon High School after the team was required by New York State to change their name. The football team are now the "River Hawks." The statue is in temporary storage; plans are to set him back up at a nearby public park at a later date.

[catluvingirl, 09/09/2017]Went to visit in Fall of 2015, and it has currently been removed for unknown reasons. The plaque that held it is still on the ground with information on the statue...but the statue itself is missing.
