O Henry book.

Big Stone Book

This huge 7x14 ft. book is a monument to the famous writer William Sydney Porter (better known as O Henry). The Gift of the Magi and The Ransom of Red Chief are the two stories depicted on its pages. There is also a statue of O Henry nearby.

[David, 11/02/2015]

O Henry spent much of his short life in Greensboro. The book was sculpted in 1985 by artist Maria J. Kirby-Smith. A small boy has been sculpted as if escaping from its pages -- possibly the namesake brat of the Red Chief story.
