Last Howard Johnson's in the U.S.

The parcel of land that includes the last Howard Johnson's is up for sale. It's not clear if the restaurant is still open for business. Its phone number has been disconnected. The HoJo's in Lake Placid closed in 2015, and one in Bangor, Maine, closed in 2016.

[Jay, 01/27/2017]

According to the latest news reports, the owner said that reports of the HoJo's closing were in error and that, "We're going to stay open for who knows how many more years."

Last Howard Johnson's in the World

The last Howard Johnson's restaurant that's still open! The orange roof, blue steeple, and weather-vane make it an instantly recognizable landmark hearkening back to decades past. While HoJo's used to be a common sight across the country, now there's only one standing. It's worth stopping and taking a picture if you're passing by.

[Charles DeYoe, 11/10/2015]

This HoJo's originally opened in 1954, then closed, then re-opened in January 2015, just before the last two previous surviving HoJo's (in Lake Placid, NY, and Bangor, ME) closed.
