Bethany Beach, Delaware: Chief Little Owl: Big Indian Head
Nanticoke Chief Little Owl was originally a 1976 Whispering Giants sculpture, carved from a poplar tree by Peter "Wolf" Toth. That version toppled in a 1992 storm; a replacement by artist Dennis Beach lasted only until 2000. This Toth head, 24 feet tall, carved from red cedar, went up on July 15, 2002.

Peter "Wolf" Toth carved logs into local Native American figures across the U.S. and Canada. This is Little Owl, a Nanticoke chief, and it's the third iteration for Bethany Beach; the original was destroyed in a 1992 storm, and the second -- by another artist -- rotted. Toth originally wanted to place this in neighboring Rehoboth Beach in 1976, but they snubbed his offer, so it ended up here.
