From Fairmont, drive south on US Hwy 81 for 2.5 miles. Turn east onto Rd H. You'll see a pull on the left; the historical marker is there.

The group at Fairmont Army Airfield dropped both atomic bombs on Japan.

According to a historical marker at site, the current farm field was once a WWII air base whose 393rd Bomb Squadron was part of the group that dropped the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs.
