Obsessive project by train buffs who in 1966 actually built their own electric railway so that they could take trips on hundred-year-old trolley cars. Still in business.

Directions:: From US Hwy 20, take the exit onto Hwy 31. Turn south and drive 2.5 miles. You'll see the entrance on the left; look for the train tracks and railroad cars.

Fox River Trolley Museum

The museum suffered serious vandalism to its collection in early July 2018. Over $110,000 in damage was inflicted and the financial stability of this 50+ year old attraction is threatened. They are still open and giving tours, and they need your help more than ever! If you love Transit and urban history, the ride along the Fox River should not be missed.

Fox River Trolley Museum

The Fox River Trolley Museum is located on a flat strip of prairie land, in between Herrick Lake Forest Preserve and the small city of South Elgin. The small rail line runs in a four-mile loop. There's a slow tour, where you learn about the history of the Aurora-Chicago transit system, and there's also a fast tour, which is more like a roller coaster ride. [Ben Perdue, 01/16/2016]
