The Andre the Giant exhibit is a small part of this local history museum, which has a fair collection of taxidermy. There isn't much else in town.

The Rankin Museum was named for the town doctor and built to display his extensive collections of dead animals and anthropological artifacts -- including a couple of shrunken heads. He was named "North Carolina Tree Farmer of the Year" in 1983, and opened his museum in 1984. Andre the Giant stood over seven feet tall and weighed 560 pounds in his prime. He moved to Ellerbe in 1979, and when he died his ashes were scattered over his nearby ranch.
