Springer, Oklahoma: Magnetic Hill

Most of the traffic on this small, rural road will probably be people like you, testing its ability to make your car roll uphill. The mysterious "magnetic" force is said to be strong enough to crash a plane!

Address:
Pioneer Rd, Springer, OK
Directions:
I-35 exit 42. Drive west 1.5 miles on Hwy 53. Turn right (north) onto Pioneer/Pit Rd. Drive one mile. You'll reach the bottom of the hill when you see gravel washed onto the blacktop. Stop, put your car in neutral, and you'll be pulled backwards, uphill (Note: up ahead you'll see the road veer sharply to the right, but if you reach this turn you've gone too far). This is a lightly traveled road, but please use your emergency flashers and be alert for other vehicles.

Magnetic Hill

Very cool, the kids were very impressed. And once backed up on the top of the hill, we didn't roll back down the hill.

You have to try it to believe it! We were so impressed we did it four times. My Yukon got up to 12 mph in neutral going backwards. The directions were very accurate. I took a picture to help.

Magnetic Hill

I made it more fun by telling my kids about the ancient native American spirits who used to live on the land and don't want visitors, so they will push your car out and up. Freaked them out.

Magnetic Hill

Almost to the end of the road before it curves east. Approximately the third power pole south of the curve.

Magnetic Hill, also known as Gravity Hill. You roll... no, accelerate uphill! Just a couple of miles west and north of Springer. After your visit you can say you survived alien abduction at Magnetic Hill.
