Walter Cronkite Memorial

This is a shrine to television anchor Walter Cronkite. If that isn't interesting enough, it's located in the open atrium space of a small college, with lots of videos and personal artifacts from Cronkite's life. The university campus has a lot of sculptures and is well-maintained. Plus it's all free!

Great photo opportunities, where you can pose as Walter behind the news desk, and also get into an astronaut suit! Unless you stand around listening to tons of Cronkite audio clips, you'll probably be through it in about a half hour. There's a pretty neat rocket sculpture.

Walter Cronkite Memorial

Pay homage to Walter Cronkite in the atrium of a St. Joseph university. First to catch your eye is the giant display of his most memorable news reports (think JFK assassination, Man on the Moon, etc.), and you can watch all of the reports on a touchscreen kiosk.

Best part? Pop on the pair of black plastic glasses and print your picture at a replica of Cronkite's great big horseshoe desk. And that's the way it is!

Walter was born in St. Joseph in 1916. Across town, in the Patee House Museum, is the preserved dentist office of Walter Cronkite's dad.
