Evangeline Oak.

Evangeline Oak

Longfellow's poem "Evangeline" immortalized the tragedy of the Acadian exile from Nova Scotia in 1755. This marks the legendary meeting place of Emmeline Labiche and Louis Arceneaux, the counterparts of Evangeline and Gabriel. The oak, statues, and placards are located in the Evangeline Oak Park along Bayou Teche at the corner of Evangeline Boulevard and New Market Street.

St. Martinville didn't claim to be the home of the Oak until long after Longfellow was dead -- but the tree had to be somewhere, right?
