Modeled on a famous photo of a sailor kissing a nurse at the end of WWII. Earlier versions of this statue (in San Diego and Sarasota) are named "Unconditional Surrender." This one is more tactfully named "Embracing Peace."

Giant Statue, End of WWII Kiss

Remember the photograph of the sailor kissing the nurse to celebrate the end of World War II? It's been re-created in a big way, as a 25-foot-tall statue. The statue is one of four by artist Seward Johnson. I've read that this placement [in Royal Oak, Michigan] is temporary, to raise funds for the Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial.
