The Mountain Music Museum ennobles northeast Tennessee as the place where hillbilly music was first put on record. Moved across the state line from Virginia in late 2017, closed in 2019.

Bristol, VA: birthplace of country music?

Congress has proclaimed Bristol, Virginia to be the official birthplace of country music. A country music museum opened there this week paying homage to Tennessee Ernie Ford and the Carter family,, believed to be the earliest recorded artists of hillbilly music.
