Sanco, Texas: Mr. Traction: Ghost Town Giant

A unique metal Goliath, maybe 10 feet tall, built of oil field weights and tractor parts in the early 1970s by D. Vernon Payne, who owned the grocery next door. The town is now abandoned, but Mr. Traction still stands.

Directions:
From Robert Lee drive north on Hwy 208 for six miles. Turn right onto Sanco Loop (Look for the green highway Sanco sign on the left). Drive 2.5 miles. At the T intersection, turn left to stay on Sanco Loop. Drive a quarter-mile, the ghost town of Sanco. You'll see Mr. Traction ahead, on the right, set back from the road.
