Goat Curse and Harry Caray Statue

The statue of TV and radio sportscaster Harry Caray has again become the target of apparent believers of the Billy Goat Curse. A dead goat was found on April 13, 2009 hanging from a rope attached to an arm of the Caray bronze, which stands outside Wrigley Field.

The statue, first erected in 1999, depicts a gargantuan Caray rising out of a tiny stadium, thrusting a microphone forward with one hand and gesturing with the other. A bunch of tiny human heads seem to be bubbling out of his legs. The statue has been a popular repository for beer cans thrust by fans into the hands of the dead media figure. But the Billy Goat Curse, cast on the Cubs by a disgruntled fan in 1945 (with a pet goat denied a seat at a game), has apparently inspired the latest incident. In 2007 another dead goat was hung on Caray.

Caray died in 1998.
