Fort Wayne, Indiana: Hanson Quarry Observation Deck (In Transition)
Unexpected thrill for a big city: a viewing deck that overlooks a 1,000-foot-deep hole in the ground. Dubbed "Indiana's Grand Canyon," the limestone quarry began in 1942 and gets deeper every day. The deck was reported closed for renovations in early 2024.

Hanson Quarry Observation Deck
- Address:
- Sand Point Rd, Fort Wayne, IN
- Directions:
- Southwest edge of the city. I-69 exit 305A. Drive east on Illinois Rd. for two miles. When the road ends, turn left onto W. Jefferson Blvd, then quickly turn right onto Ardmore Ave. Drive south for three miles. Just after you pass the Southwest Church of Christ on the right, turn right onto Sand Point Rd (look for the large brick building). Sand Point Rd bends left, then right. Follow it until to come to a yellow gate on the left. Turn left, and you'll see the stairway for the deck straight ahead.
