Veterans memorial.

Plane on a Stick

A veterans memorial in Lakewood is built to simulate a fighter taking off from the surface of an aircraft carrier. That itself is an interesting design, but that it is located beside an elementary school, in a residential area, makes it an easily missed attraction to casual tourists on the hunt for such things.

[T.D. Eivins, 09/27/2016]

The jet has been on display since 1956, but it wasn't until 2015 that the aircraft carrier was added. Computer-sequenced lighting at night adds to the illusion.
