[Vance Erwin, 06/21/2019]The eclectic 1894 tower mimicked a Worms, Germany water tower, and included a steel tank holding up to 250,000 gallons. The tank was drained permanently in 1963; the base served as a repair shop for city parking and water meters. In 2000-2001 the space was transformed into Fresno's visitor center.
The Old Fresno Water Tower is castle-shaped. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The tower was designed by George Washington Maher and was completed in 1894.
