Two of the most famous characters from Harding County were not people, but a bucking horse and a killer wolf. Tipperary was one of history's greatest bucking horses, inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and memorialized at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
Old Three Toes was a large gray wolf that lost one of his toes in a trap. During his lifetime between 1909 and 1925, Old Three Toes killed over $50,000 worth of livestock. The wolf was eventually captured, and while being transported into town Old Three Toes laid his head on the lap of one of his captors and "died of a broken heart."
