A golden goddess named "Citadel" is dedicated to the pioneer women of South Dakota. A plaque at its base quotes John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath," praising a similar woman as, "the citadel of the family." It was sculpted in 1991 by artist Dale Lamphere.
