Alcalde, New Mexico: Boondoggle Conquistador Visitor Center
A larger-than-life bronze statue of a mounted Spanish Conquistador rises in front of a multi-million-dollar visitor center and museum that was built in the 1990s but never opened.

- Directions:
- 1.5 miles north of the city, on the northbound side of Hwy 68, at its intersection with Rd 1064. Look for the official blue Onate Monument Visitor Center sign. It will be gated, but you can park in the entryway, get out, and walk around.
