Enter and pay at the antique business attached to the building. Harold gave us the full tour and it was amazing. He's been collecting cat items for over 30 years. Highly recommend for all the cat lovers out there. Admission to the museum goes toward running Harold's cat sanctuary.

Lots and lots and lots of cat stuff - from advertising to paintings, stuffed to glass, toys to collectibles, even a mummified cat and a petrified cat (found in the chimney when a building from the 1500s was torn down). Had a personalized tour led by Harold (museum director and collector). I could probably pick an item anywhere in there and he could tell the history of either that specific piece or the type of piece. Very enjoyable stop.

Harold Sims shares his private collection of antique and ancient cat items. He is known as Catman in the area because he has a (no kill) cat shelter nearby that is a house just for cats. He loves leading visitors through his interesting variety of cat items. Very educational and fun.

I opened The American Museum of the House along US Highway 441 just south of Dillsboro. It is America's second cat museum. The museum is operated to benefit Catman2 Inc., a non-profit, cats only, no kill shelter, adoption center, and sanctuary.

[Harold Sims, 04/07/2017]

The museum displays the 30-year collection of cat items belonging to founder Harold Sims. America's only other cat museum -- focused more on show cats than house cats -- is in Ohio.
