Destin, Florida: Destin's Magnificent Magnolia (Gone)

Despite the "magnificent" title on its historical marker, this gnarled, dead tree looked like a nightmare out of a Tim Burton film. Removed in 2020.

From US Hwy 98/Harbor Blvd, just east of the bridge across the East Point Channel, turn south at the Stahlman Ave. stoplight into HarborWalk Village. Drive south, past the parking lots, and you'll see the tree ahead on the right.
2020: Cut down.

Destin's Magnificent Magnolia

This 170-year-old magnolia tree died in 2014. In order to preserve its history, local artists carved dozens of beautiful animals and sea life into its trunk and remaining branches. This tree-sculpture has a prominent place at a seaside harbor walk.
