This is still a work in progress, 18 months after it was first listed on roadsideamerica.com. A friend is visiting from Boston and we called to verify the number and address. As of mid-February 2005, the rubber band ball was 3,000 pounds and still growing! It's about four feet in diameter and hulks in the open doorway of the Pride Superette like an enormous serape-draped troll. One of the brothers gave my friend a photo postcard and told us he still had about 100 pounds of rubber bands to add before they consider the ball complete.
[Emily Cookson, 04/01/2005]This was a giant rubber band ball that two brothers have been working on for the past three years. There was a big blanket over it with a "do not touch and no photos" sign on it. One of the brothers did allow me to lift the blanket to get a better look and sold me a photo of the two brothers and the ball. He was kind enough to autograph the photo. He told me that Ripley's Believe It Or Not had been there the week before, and that the ball was to be featured in one of their television programs. There was a big box of rubber bands behind the counter and he told me that he was going to continue to work on it. He said some days they work on it for 11 hours at a time.
