Just visited the basket. Although the rabbit and the Easter eggs are no longer inside, the basket is still fun to look at.

The Big Easter Basket has been repainted! Not as brightly colored at the moment, but still a sight to see.

At the entrance of Lakeview Park sits a large, brightly painted Easter Basket made of concrete. A former resident told me the basket has been around for over 60 years, and is a popular photo spot in the Spring. A memorial plaque celebrates the creator and suggests that there may have been more baskets around town at one time.

David Shukait, who worked as a mechanic for the city parks department, built this basket in 1937, using a technique he invented and later patented. He eventually built six more, slightly smaller. He died in 1976. He is not buried in the basket.
