The house is private. The owner came out while I was there and he was a very nice gentleman. He told me the story of his grandparents-in-law, and how they suffered during the Great Depression, and that's the reason for the skinny house being built.
[Shawn Germano, 06/27/2017]Nathan Seely, an African-American carpenter and builder, lost his home and business during the Great Depression. His neighbor, to whom Seely had originally sold the land, gave him a 12.5-foot-wide plot to build on. Seely built the home with salvaged materials, including rusted railroad track and a chicken coop. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015. The Westchester County Historical Society calls it, "architecturally significant as a symbol of American ingenuity and craftsmanship."
