November 6, 2006: The fire.

Gatorland: The Fire of 2006

November 6, 2006: 15 years ago, a pre-dawn fire ripped through the gift shop at Florida's Gatorland, transforming its picturesque gator jaws entrance into a flame belching, souvenir consuming monster. Although badly scorched, the jaws were made of fireproof concrete. With a fresh coat of paint, it returned as a popular photo-op, now prudently detached from the building.
