Gatorland Zoo
Gatorland Zoo's famous alligator mouth entrance stands forlorn, awaiting a new gift shop. The mouth was preserved when a massive fire burned down the building that was attached to the rear of the mouth. Hopefully they will one day get a new gift shop built.

[11/06/2006] Complete News StoryGatorland wants a new spokesperson for its first national promotional campaign -- and it could be you. ... [02/23/2001] Complete News StoryIn 1956 on a trip through Central Florida I saw a giant salt-water crocodile at a roadside attraction. His name was "Bonecrusher" and he was said to be 25 feet long. He was probably 4 feet or higher at his shoulders. When I first saw him I thought he was made of concrete; he was completely still, but as I looked closer I could see his mouth was open and could see his throat moving as he breathed. After a while he moved his body. No doubt in my mind he was real!
I now live in Florida.I have told folks about this giant crock and they don't believe me. I have tried to find the roadside attraction without success. No one at Gatorland could help. All of the people who were with me on the trip in 1956 are now deceased. Do you have any information to verify my memories of this?

Dave Mitchell confirms: "Bonecrusher the crocodile was indeed at Gatorland. As I recall, he was supposed to be the largest croc in captivity. He died around 1969-1970; the Orlando paper ran photos of his enormous bulk being hauled out of his pen by crane! (That was back when Gatorland offered free admission, too!) His skull and the photo were on display for years, but must have been relocated, misplaced and forgotten during any of several renovations Gatorland has had over the years."
