Miller Place, New York: Pirate House (Gone)
Homeowners filled their front yard with statues of marauding vikings, pirates, and goofy nautical cast-offs. Fell into disrepair by 2020 and was in ruins by 2023.

- In the front yard of a suburban home. From Hwy 25A turn north onto Sylvan Ave. (no stoplight). Drive north, through the stoplight at Echo Ave. Make the next right onto Woodland Rd. The Pirate House is the fifth house on the left. Private property; visible from the street.

The decorations are gone, and in their place are overgrown weeds and thin trees. There is a hole in the roof of the house and the entire property has fallen into disrepair. It was a fun place to stop and show friends. Now it's just sad.
[Anthony Greco, 12/09/2023]My husband and I drove by today and, sadly, the home/exhibit has fallen into disrepair. Many of the components are missing, and others are crumbling away. There was a dumpster on the property, so it may be under repair, but I cannot confirm that for sure. All and all, the sentiment behind its existence is heartwarming still...

The local story that I have heard about this house is that the owner filled its yard with pirate and viking statues for his daughter, who has a brain injury. It came in the wake of seeing her happy reaction to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride during a trip to Disney World. I cannot say if that is true; it could just be an urban legend.
