San Antonio, Texas: Graves of the Alamo Cats (Gone)
They did not die with the Alamo defenders, but perished in recent times, when the Alamo has always had one resident cat to greet visitors. Reported replaced by a restroom in March 2023.
- Directions:
- Downtown. On the east side of Alamo Plaza, between E. Houston and E. Crockett Sts. Go the restrooms at the Alamo. Directly across from them you'll see a gate labeled "Employees Only." Look inside the gate. You'll see a small rock with attached nameplates for the cats.

Unfortunately this exhibit has been removed. A restroom was built where this was previously located. The Ranger I spoke to told me that it would not be replaced.
[Tom & George, 03/27/2023]Currently the Alamo is under renovation and the cat marker is not available to the public. The renovations are supposed to be done next year -- no time frame better than that.

Ruby and C.C. were both strays who adopted the Alamo as their home. Ruby entered the scene in 1981. C.C. began her tour of duty in 1996; she died in 2014. Ruby has a children's book written about her. C.C. was bilingual. Bella is the current feline queen of the Alamo. She loves the job.
