Mexican Hat, Utah: Forrest Gump Scenic Viewpoint
Fans of the 1994 film Forrest Gump make it a point to pose at the spot where he ended his cross-country jog. Home-made "Run Ended" Gump signs were replaced with official "Scenic Turnout" signs in 2022. Utah doesn't want people blocking the road to take photos.
- Address:
- US Hwy 163, Mexican Hat, UT
- Directions:

Drove by on December 15, 2021. There are "No Stopping or Standing" signs covering a half-mile before and after this spot.

We just stopped by the Forrest Gump sign in Monument Valley, as mentioned on your site, and wanted to let you know that the sign has been replaced.
[Kathy, 07/23/2021]We searched and searched for the sign but could not find it. We think it may have been taken down as there is a sign that says no stopping or standing. Don't tell me you saw it after July 2021 as I will be so disappointed.
[Stella, 07/23/2021]We definitely won't be the ones to deliver the bad news.
As of May 2021 the sign is still standing. Southbound 163 near mile marker 13. It is a bit faded, but still readable, and worth a stop for a photo.

This view has been featured in Easy Rider and Forrest Gump. Pull over at mile marker 13 for the Forrest Gump shot.
