When on Mackinac Island, you must stop at the Grand Hotel! It's as beautiful as the pictures show. However, it's old and the floors are leaning a bit. so watch your step. The grounds are gorgeous. The pool was open and heated per those in it. The pecan-covered ice cream was worth every penny ($$) and calorie!
[Rose Howe, 10/24/2022]There is a $10 charge per person to access the hotel lobby and porch. This is applied to the lunch buffet if you choose to eat the buffet; otherwise it's just a fee.

No cars are allowed on Mackinac Island. Only 400 people live here. But it's been a major tourist destination for years, ever since the Grand Hotel was built In 1887. The hotel has the longest porch, longer than any other porch in the entire world. It stretches 668 feet from end to end, with spectacular views of the Mackinac Bridge and Lake Huron. Robert Ripley, of Ripley's Believe it or Not, measured the porch in the 1930s, declared it to be the World's Longest, and this has been the claim ever since.
