Higgins Museum of National Bank Notes
We had some time to kill in Okoboji and saw the sign for this place -- and it turned out to be fascinating. Did you know that banks issued their own currency for many years? Even little banks (National Bank of New Hampton, Iowa) would issue currency. This museum has hundreds of such bills along with information about the banks that printed them. It covers Iowa and much of South Dakota, Minnesota, and some of Nebraska. Others states have a few bills, but the curator has plenty of information about them (He had photos of Kent, Washington currency). Fun stuff such as vaults, check cutters and such.
