On Highway 136 halfway between Goose Lake and Charlotte stands a six-foot-tall metal rooster on a ten-foot-tall stanchion. The owner said he first saw the rooster at an auction in Illinois but didn't bid on it. A week later he went back and it was still there, so he bought it and hauled it home on a trailer.
The rooster sat in his yard for a couple of years. He was able to get the gas station stanchion when the Standard station in Charlotte was torn down. With help from neighbors and his trusty tractor, the rooster was raised into full glorious view.
