Cuylerville, New York: Torture Tree
Two Revolutionary War soldiers met a gruesome end thanks to this tree. It has its own little parking lot and several historical plaques that provide bloody details.

Boyd Parker Memorial Park is the site where two American Revolutionary soldiers, Lt. Boyd and Sgt. Parker, were captured and brutally tortured using this tree, hence the name "Torture Tree." The tree is at least 275 years old, one of the oldest in New York. This site is also included in the National Historic Registry and National Arboretum Society.

Boyd and Parker were tortured by members of the Seneca tribe, who were allies of the British. The tree was used creatively and the torture was gruesome -- various plaques near the tree provide details -- but native tribes also inflicted gruesome torture on each other.
