- Texas State Cemetery. East of downtown. Enter the cemetery off of Comal St. midway between E. 7th and E 11th Sts. Drive straight in, then continue straight onto the narrow, unpaved road. Veer left at the split. Follow the narrow road until it veers sharply left. The tall, black marble Connally tombstone will be on the right.

On November 22, 1963, sitting in the seat in front of President and Mrs. Kennedy, were Texas Governor John Connally and his wife Nellie. The governor was shot and critically wounded during the Kennedy assassination, but recovered and served as governor of Texas until 1969. He died in 1993, and Nellie joined him at the Texas State Cemetery in 2006. The back of their tombstone has an engraved reference to the governor's wounds and the assassination.
