We discovered Alligator Town while stopping at the nearby InfoCenter. Next to the mailbox was a wooden alligator with a leg hanging out its mouth. The place is run by E.D. Pickrel, an older gent who seemed thrilled to show us around. Visiting was free, though he accepts donations (he told us we gave him too much and made us take some of our money back). E.D. raises baby alligators and let us hold handfuls of them for photographs. In another effort to help us get a good picture, E.D. climbed into an alligator pit with a fourteen foot gator "to get it to move around for us." I'm a sucker for roadside attractions and all in all, this was one of the most fun I've seen.

May 2005 - Tipster Deke reports: "Alligator Town in Lake City FL is no longer there, and the Sports Hall of Fame that was a direction finder is also defunct. Bummer! It sounded great."
