Dunk a wax victim in a water torture tank, peek into the Chest of Dismemberment, sit in the spiky Armchair of Inquiries. Educational.

This absolutely exceeded expectations! The exhibits are interactive -- so you can understand the physics of the devices. Admission (which is pricey) includes access to an audio tour -- with 42 stops (each 1.5 minutes). My 14-year old loved this -- though it's definitely not designed for children and some exhibits are explicit. Allow 1.5 hours.
Museum shares a building with the Miniature Masterpiece collection -- which is a great add-on (and included with your admission). Half-price tix on Groupon.

Two great, quirky attractions under one roof. The Medieval Torture Museum is super-creepy, quite gory, and very interactive! You can dunk a poor person in the water tank, open the Brazen Bull to see the unfortunate victim being roasted inside, and find all kinds of other fun and scary things accompanied by informative tidbits. The Micro Masterpieces Gallery features an amazing collection of tiny artworks visible through microscopes. Where else can you see a flea outfitted with golden horseshoes, or the world's smallest book?
