Windsor, South Carolina: Devilish Creature Made of Metal Junk

A spring-headed rust demon fogs the minds of drivers to stop at an antiques shop.
US Hwy 78, Windsor, SC
On US 78 about 2.5 miles east of State House Rd (Windsor) and six miles west of Springfield Rd/Hwy 39 (Williston). On the westbound side, in front of a junk shop. SLOW DOWN. He blends in well with the weeds and brush and is hard to see if you aren't looking.

Devilish Creature Made of Metal Junk

The owner and creator of the junk man lives on the property and sells antiques as well as other collectibles, such as old chain gang balls, Civil War memorabilia and the like. Stop in and see Earl. He'll be glad.

Junk creature without head.

Although this strange oddity is still standing silently waving to all that pass; it seems that the Queen of Hearts is a roadie as well and has ordered "off with its head!"

Hmmm... not much worth slowing down for now....

Auto parts man.

Auto Parts Sculpture

This is not a "Muffler Man." Rather this is a "man" made from auto parts and the tank from a water heater. He stands on the north side of the road. Look carefully -- he's almost engulfed in weeds, etc.

On Highway 78 between Williston and Aiken, there is an old, tumble-down junk shop in a shack on the RIGHT side of the road as you travel west toward Aiken. The yard is strewn with different kinds of automotive and domestic junk, including some pretty interesting classic cars, and I've never seen a living human being on the premises except those of us who stop to wander around the yard. On the highway, standing proudly with one arm raised, is a somewhat rusty but nevertheless recognizable MUFFLER MAN, sort of a bizarre, art deco type, that has been there as long as I can remember.

[Frampton Durban, Jr., 02/07/2002]

Rusty? Hmmm... sounds like another car parts sculpture, not a fiberglass Muffer Man!
