According to local history, Rene Pelchat saw a sword sticking out of the St. Lawrence River when he arrived in 1866. The sword monument was unveiled in 2016.

In June 2016, a small village named Manche d'Epee ("sword hilt" in English) commemorated its 150th anniversary with a large Excalibur-like sword monument along Rte 132.
